Dear Mister Smedley

We are sure you have received a lot of feedback about the SOE/ProSiebenSat1 deal, and you probably don't want to read any more of those.

Still, we would like to add our voices to the feedback.

We have set up an online petition (you can find the petition at http://www.change.org/petitions/sony-online-entertainment-stop-the-prosieben-soe-partnership# ) and received over 530 signatures in less than 2 days, many of them from old time SOE customers - lots of them going back to Verant times even. A lot of the people that signed play with their families and own several accounts.

Those signatures probably represent between 750 - 1000 accounts. Maybe 75% of those are old time players that have played SOE titles for more than 5 years, most of them play on paid accounts (regular and station pass).

If we average the account costs at about 17 Dollars this would mean that, with just the subscribers of this petition, we are talking about $750,000 in subscriptions per year, plus a total value of spent money (including game and expansion costs) over the last 5 years of at least 3,75 million dollars. Add Station Cash, Fan Faires, Adventure Packs etc. and the number will get a lot higher.

So you see, this petition does not only represent a certain amount of people but also a decent amount of money.

While we are aware that you heard all the opinions about this deal already, we do want to point out the biggest concerns again: Community and Security. We did see the post from Linda Carlson about trying to work out a way to keep the community together, but we are still very worried that it will leave a big dent and destroy a lot of it overall.
Security is another point that is really important. Based on the recent happenings with hacked accounts, people are a lot more aware how easy it is to have their information spread out to places they don't want to. Unfortunately, Pro7Sat1 doesn't seem to have a very good reputation in those fields. Judging from the look of the website and the comments on their forums, the type of games they offer appear to cover a totally different market and type of customer than what EQ2 players are.

Feel free to check out the posts at the petition about all the other concerns and see how heartbreaking some of them are. Of course this is a business, that has to earn revenues. However, it will only earn revenues if there are people willing to pay...and this whole uproar is not just going to affect SOE, it goes way further than that. Gamers are people with great memories, as I am sure you already noticed, and when it comes to new games, the reputation of a company is important. Not only with games; we are already seeing people post that they will not buy any Sony products anymore. Add friends and families and a bad reputation can spread out quite far. After the hacked accounts and after this, we think, good PR would be something SOE could use. So please think of us as people, and not just as dollars, when you work out the deal and figure out how to handle the whole situation in a way that makes your customers happy. We are sure you would not regret that in the long run.

Wir sind uns sicher, dass Sie bereits einiges an Feedback erhalten haben bezüglich des SOE/ProSiebenSat1-Deals, und vielleicht im Moment gar nichts mehr hören möchten.

Trotzdem würden wir gerne unsere Stimmen dazu abgeben.

Wir haben eine online Petition aufgesetzt und über 530 Unterschriften in weniger als zwei Tagen erhalten (Sie finden die Petition unter http://www.change.org/petitions/sony-online-entertainment-stop-the-prosieben-soe-partnership#). Viele davon sind von alten SOE-Kunden, Spielern die bereits vor SOE bei EverQuest dabei waren. Zahlreiche der Unterschreibenden spielen mit der ganzen Familie und besitzen mehrere Accounts.

Diese Unterschriften repräsentieren mindestens 750-1000 Accounts. Vielleicht 75% davon sind Spieler, welche bereits seit über 5 Jahre SOE-Titel spielen und die meisten davon besitzen Zahl-Accounts (reguläre und Station Pass).

Wenn wir einen Mittelwert der Accountpreise von 17 Dollars nehmen, wären wir alleine bei den Supportern dieser Petition bei über 750,000 Dollar Jahresgebühren. Rechnet man das Spiel selbst, Expansions, Shopartikel, Fan Faires, Adventure Packs etc. dazu, kommt man auf 4-5 Millionen Dollar an ausgegebenen Geldern nur für diese Gruppe.

Es ist uns klar, dass für Sie die bereits ausgegebenen Gelder nicht zählen, aber gute Spieler sind auch bereit in Zukunft Geld auszugeben, ihre Freunde zum Spielen zu bringen und ihre Familien. Und das bedeutet auch künftig gute Einnahmen. Wie Sie sehen, repräsentiert unsere Petition also nicht nur eine grosse Menge Kunden, sondern auch einen ganz ordentlichen Betrag an möglichen Einnahmen.

Wir sind überzeugt, dass Sie bereits alle Argumente von uns Gamern gehört haben, aber wir möchten trotzdem noch einmal kurz auf die beiden wichtigsten hinweisen: Gemeinschaft und Sicherheit. Wir haben selbstverständlich die Nachrichten von Linda Carlson und auch von Protagonist gesehen, dass eine befriedigende Lösung ausgearbeitet werden soll. Trotzdem sind viele von uns in Sorge, dass diese ganze Aktion Spuren hinterlassen wird und vieles der bestehenden Gemeinschaft zerstören wird.

Sicherheit ist der andere Punkt, der für viele wichtig ist. Bedenkt man, die erst kürzlich passierten Probleme mit gehackten Accounts bzw. Kundeninformationen, ist es logisch, dass viele Spieler heute viel bewusster mit ihren Daten umgehen und viel eher befürchten, dass ihre Informationen in falsche Hände geraten. Leider hat Ihre Firma nicht einen besonders guten Ruf in diesem Bereich. Wenn man Ihre Webseite betrachtet und die Kommentare in den Foren liest, scheint es auch so, als ob die Art der Spiele und Ihr Zielpublikum einen völlig anderen Markt bedient als uns EQ2 Spieler.

Gerne laden wir Sie dazu ein, die Bemerkungen unserer Petition zu lesen und selbst festzustellen, wie besorgt viele sind und wie viele berührende, herzzerbrechende Kommentare dabei sind. Selbstverständlich sind wir uns bewusst, dass es hier um ein Geschäft geht, welches Gewinn erzeugen muss. Allerdings wird Gewinn nur erzeugt, wenn es auch Leute gibt, die Geld dafür ausgeben.

Wir sind überzeugt, dass es eine Lösung gibt, dieses Desaster zu bereinigen und für Ihre Firma Vertrauen aufzubauen und unsere Spiele gut und optimal zu vermarkten (allerdings hat uns auch etwas besorgt, dass es anscheinend keine Stellenausschreibungen für Game Masters und Support zu geben scheint), aber wir glauben, dass auch Ihnen gute PR nützlich wäre.

Aus all diesen Gründen bitten wir Sie uns nicht nur als Einnahmefaktor zu sehen, sondern auch als Menschen, sich in unsere Lage zu versetzen und wirklich eine Lösung zu finden, die allen gerecht wird. Wir sind uns sicher, dass Sie das auf Dauer nicht bereuen würden.

Wir sind uns der Probleme, der allgemeinen Stimmung und Besorgnis in der Community bezüglich dieses Themas sehr bewusst. Derzeit laufen noch interne Gespräche, zu denen wir jedoch zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch keine genauen Details nennen können. Wir sind aber davon überzeugt, dass wir eine Lösung finden werden, die alle Beteiligten zufriedenstellen wird. Wir haben dazu auch bereits ein offizielles Statement in unserem temporären SOE / ProSiebenSat.1 Games-Forum veröffentlicht, der bereits einen positiven Eindruck von der zukünftigen Zusammenarbeit vermittelt.
